Ella L. Harris, LCSW-R, DCSW, ACSW

 

Ella Harris is an African American psychologist, with advanced clinical postgraduate trainings. She provides services to New Yorkers from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds with cultural sensitivity and professional care. Her theoretical approach includes family system therapy, psychodynamic, step focus treatment, faith based, and cognitive behavior. Her practice includes short term and long term treatment with individuals, families - fusion, men and women relationships, couples, groups for women, and adolescents who are transitioning to college.

Twenty nine years of Clinical professional experience has provided Ella Harris with a sound basis in different areas of therapeutic expertise. She has worked extensively with schizophrenia, depression, alcoholism, separation, divorce, rape and incest survivors, conflicts with self, interpersonal relationship problems, child-focus concerns, communication difficulties, feelings of loneliness, disconnectedness and confusion, marital issues, career counseling, single parenting issues, as well as being single. Her work has dealt with children, adolescents and adults, both in individual counseling, family therapy and group counseling.​

Her clinical experience includes short-term and long-term therapeutic programs involving patients from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Her specialization is in family systems, individual, and rape counseling. She is a trained family therapist who holds an Advanced Achievement Certificate in Family Theory and Therapy. She served as a clinical associate at The Center for Family Learning. She has developed, taught, and led workshops and in-service training on the system approach to psychotherapy, family counseling, group and individual counseling.

In addition to private practice, Ella Harris has an abundance of post-Master's experience in an adult psychiatric inpatient and outpatient facilities. As a psychiatric social work supervisor, she provides clinical supervision within the context of the clinical needs and assessment of patient population in an inpatient unit. She also provides private supervision and consultation. She is connected with the Brooklyn rape program and work in clinical consultation as required in that capacity.

Further, she has taught several mental health courses at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, and has led seminars and workshops in New York City, Chicago, and Florida.
